Over 110 years working for nature
The friends of nature movement was founded in 1895. At the focal point of our work is the active involvement with nature and in shaping our lives in a sustainable way. Of special concern to us is an aim for tourism that is close-to-nature, ecological and socially responsible.

Time to return to nature = conscious living amongst nature
Today, there are more than 500,000 Friends of Nature worldwide amongst numerous local groups in member and partner association of the IFN, organized in almost 50 countries (www.nfi.at). Working with Friends of Nature means living a culture of sustainability: Leisure and tourism shaped in an ecological and social way, interweaves the experience of nature with ecological knowledge and social commitment, to provide an abundance of opportunities. Around 1000 Friends of Nature are support centres for a more gentle tourism (www.nf-house.org). With a multitude of projects, we want to help in the implementation of sustainable development.

Politics of sustainability
Shaping all areas of life in a social and ecological way demands an appropriate political framework. The democratically elected representatives of Friends of Nature exist on all political levels for the implementation of the politics of sustainability, above all, in the fields of traffic, tourism, conservation and regional politics. The International Friends of Nature is a vast body integrated on an international level (e.g. in the European Union or UNO).
